The Chino Short

Ah, the chino short — the perfect spring and summer staple piece for both men and women. It combines all of my favorite things into one: color, preppiness, and class. I dare you to put a pair of these on a not look polished, and just like so many other things I love, they can be dressed up or down. It’s a twofer, people!

These shorts have been around for quite some time, but J. Crew is the brand to thank for bringing preppy back. You need to remember the next time you walk into your local J. Crew store not to be sticker shocked. J. Crew makes quality clothes that will last forever. With that being said, you’ll easily drop $45 on a pair of these cute, colored shorts. Not to worry! You should all know by now that I will come to the rescue with affordable alternatives.

If you’re just wanting to try out the trend, by all means check out my go-to store, Forever 21. I picked up a pair of red and navy chino’s for $12.80 a few weeks back. They’re absolutely adorable and I will say, the quality is surprisingly superb. There is one store I choose over F21 when it comes to my shorts… Old Navy. They always have a wide variety of styles, lengths, and colors. Their prices are very reasonably priced, usually around $24, but Old Navy is always having awesome sales. My personal fave from Old Navy would have to be their Perfect Khaki Shorts with a 3 1/2″ inseam. They are perfection. Not too long, not too short, but just right.

Like I mentioned before, there are plenty of chino’s for the fellas, too! J. Crew and Old Navy both have a stellar selection for the misters. Remember, like always, have fun with the color (or stick with your classic white, navy, and khaki if you’d like), and dress ’em up for a night out, or down for a summer BBQ.
